    Jacqueline,

My name is Emily Hash. I saw your message on this website tonight and your inquiry about Thomas Gasson. My great-great-great grandfather’s name was Thomas Edmond Gasson. He was born in Rye and was married to Sarah Frances (Langford) Gasson. I don’t know if this is the same Thomas Gasson you are looking for but I wanted to contact you just in case.

    Sincerely,
    Emily Hash

    Hi Phillip,
We hope you might be able to help us in our search … We are trying to find any living relatives of my paternal grandmother (Eileen Agnes Gasson). My father was adopted in April 1945 at aged six weeks and we have never been able to trace any living relatives. We have conducted numerous searches and have always come out at dead-ends but we have found the following information: Birth record for Eileen Agnes Gasson: East Grinstead Registration District December Quarter 1920.She was born on 5th October 1920. Her parent’s details as on the birth certificate are: Arthur Ernest Gasson (occupation, builders clerk) and Agnes Ada Gasson (nee Mighall). Arthur Ernest Gasson was born in Ardingly, Sussex in 1879. His parents were Harry Gasson 40 Sawyer born in Nuthurst. His mother was Ann Gasson 42 born Balcombe. The other children on that census were Clement 20, Henry M, 17 Julia R 10 and Leonard 7 – all born in Balcombe. Some of these children were living in East Grinstead as well in the early 1900s Looking at the indexes we found that Eileen had a twin – Molly A Gasson who married a man of the surname Whiteman in the Battle RD in 1945 (Molly died in 2002 in the Hastings area). There was also a brother – Charles Henry Gassonborn in May 1916 who died in the Hastings area in 1980. He may possibly have married someone of the surname Coulstock in the Tonbridge area in 1942 – but we can’t be sure it is him. Marriage between Eileen Agnes Gasson and EDWARD SIVERS Battle Registration District Sep Quarter 1951 volume 5h page 39. Death of Eileen Agnes Gasson is recorded on the death certificate as 26th April 1979 in St Helen’s Hospital, Hastings. Her home address was listed at the time as: 1 Brickfields, Peasmarsh, Rye, Sussex. Any help in trying to find any lost relatives would be most appreciated. Many thanks Penny

Emily I have Gasson’s in my family but not from Rye, at least I couldn’t connect them. I had been in contact with Art Chatterton and garland lewis but I believe they may be deceased by now. They sent me tons of info. on Thomas & Sarah (Langford) Gasson, it would probably cost a lot to send it but I don’t want to destroy it. You are welcome to it. There are lots of pictures etc.

Hi Penny, this is late in the day regarding your search but I’m also trying to trace relatives in Rye in the early 1800s. My mother’s grandmother was married to Edward Swan and her maiden name was Gasson. I don’the know her first name. However they had a shoe shop in Landgate, Rye in the early 1900s. Edward was a cobbler and made shoes at the shop. There is some family history that grandma Swan’s brother (name of Gasson) was an alderman in Rye but I can’t find anything on this. I’d be interested to know if this has any significance for you.

    Kind regards,

Hi Penny, I have only recently seen your note re Eileen Gasson and read it with some interest. The reason for this is that I believe Edward (Ted) Sivers was an uncle to me and I met him a handful of times around 1966 when I would have been 10 years old. Somewhere I’m sure my family have a photo of Ted with Eileen. Please feel free to send me a note on [email protected] Kind regards, Jeremy
