For many years artists have worked outdoors to produce sketches and drawings to accompany their larger works – Constable and Turner were famed for their ‘en plein air’ approach, and hugely influenced the Impressionists in France. The traditions of ‘en plein air’ are alive and very popular amongst Sussex artists. Our stunning coastline, beautiful lands, sea and big skies provide artists with the essence of being in a place. The exhibition celebrates en plein air work and is combined with a competition to attract enthusiasts to participate in the show at Rye Art Gallery.
Selected competition entries will be featured in a special exhibition at the gallery from Weds 25th September and winners will be announced on Sunday 29th September.
The competition entry fee is £15.00 per entry (maximum four submissions) and forms available from Rye Art Gallery.
