Rye and District Bonfire Society’s torchlit procession and bonfire is one of the major events in the local calendar.

The evening starts with a torchlit procession at 7.30pm through the town, with many other bonfire societies and floats joining in, giving the town an amazing and special atmosphere. The procession follows a dedicated route through the town to the bonfire site on the Town Salts. A celebrity is carried by sedan chair through the streets to the bonfire site to light the bonfire. The effigy on the bonfire varies from year to year but often has a topical theme. A brilliant firework display follows the lighting of the bonfire.

Rye Bonfire Society receives no public funding but raises the money to stage the event throughout the year. The donations given by the public on bonfire night has raised considerable amounts for local charities.

Please visit the web site for more information, program, and route map.
