Traveling to Rye on 26th December

Hey everyone,

I am an American who will be in London from the 25th thru the 29th of December this year. My wife and I really want to travel to Rye as it is so beautiful and we want to come for the day from London. My question is, How things are on Boxing Day? Are things open? Are stores and cafes open etc?

Just trying to get an idea of what to expect or if we should come at all that day. Thanks!

Hello Stephen, firstly I would check the trains if that is how you will be travelling – as Boxing Day is a biggish holiday and they don’t necessarily run as you would expect. I would also say that the best place to visit near Rye on Boxing Day is Camber Sands. Again not easy without a car but it seems that most of Rye is there with their new Christmas presents / sweaters / dogs etc … As far as restaurants and shops are concerned it is not usually very ‘open’ so the 27th / 28th / 29th would be better to visit for interest. Hope that helps. Lorna.
