Donovan Family

My name is James Williams and I am hoping that somebody knows, or knows somebody else who knows, of any families with the name Donovan living in Rye. My great grandmothers name was Sarah Mahala Donovan and her father and mother were Daniel Donovan and Susanna (Nee Williams) and they lived in Seymour Place (now Rope Walk) in the 1870s.

Hello James, my name is Laura and although I do not know of any of the Donovan family presently living in Rye I thought you would like to know that my Great Great Great Grandmother was Susanna (nee Williams) married to Daniel Donovan. I am a descendant of their elder daughter, also Susanna, Sarah’s sister.

    Hello Laura.
By chance I looked on the Rye Message Board and saw you post.
I assume you are descended from Susanna and George Edwin Woolley.
Over the last year I have Done a considerable amount of research on the Donovans and am always looking for any new information on other branches of Donovans and as yet have not gone down Susannas line.
Should you be willing perhaps we could share information.
    James Williams.

    Hello James,

Thanks for your recent post and kind offer. I have been researching the Donovans for some time but would be delighted to exchange notes. You are correct, I am descended from Susanna and George, who later used his father’s surname of Mitchell, rather than Woolley from his mother. Their youngest daughter Rosa was my Great Grandmother.

Hi James, thank you for the message. Sounds like a good idea. It is my auntie who has completed the most research, so I will ask her about exchanging then info. How would it be best to contact you?

    Hello Laura,

I am absolutely delighted that you have replied to my post.

The descendants of Susanna have been a stumbling block in my Donovan research. I have some information relating to the Wooleys but given your comments that George used the name Mitchell would probably make my information suspect.
Perhaps we could communicated via email to exchange information (mine is:- [reveal email] ).
If this suggestion is acceptable please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    James Williams (Jim)

    Hello Mike,

Great to see your posts, I wish I had checked more recently! I am descended from Susanna, daughter of Susannah Williams and Daniel Donovan and my research mainly concerns her line. From which sibling do you descend? I would be very pleased to receive any information and to assist you too if possible.

    Thanks,

    Hello Laura,

This is a follow-up to my previous post. Since my original post in reply to yours I have searched for descendants of Susanna and have found several which might or might not be correct. I would therefore appreciate any help you could give me to enable me to get the correct descendants attached to Susanna. If you could email me ([email protected]) with your email address I could send you a database of the descendants of Daniel Donovan & Susannah Williams then you could correct any errors you think I might have.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

    Kind regards,

    James Williams (Jim)
