Rye in East Sussex Town Guide

Family History of Comport

Stella Stevens (nee Comport): Hello Stella

I am one of the ‘Essex’ Comports (though I think my family are the only ‘Comports’ in the county!). We know about the concentration of Comports in Kent (including the Dickens connection), Sussex and Hampshire. What we are less clear about is whether there is a link. The research that we have done into our family tree does not suggest there is one. But it’s always nice to be proved wrong! I would be happy to send you a short summary of our family tree and perhaps you could let me know if you can spot a link. Let me know.

Regards

Neil Comport

Came acros your message (of 6 yrs ago) re Comport name.
You (and Neil – wherever he is) may be interested to know that I wrote a book 25 yrs ago (not published) tracing the names Comport, Comfort, and Cornford back to a common origin – at least in the 11’00’s and maybe to the 6th C
If you get in touch I can email extracts.
