An ancestor of John Turk is buried just inside the door of St Michael’s Church Playden. John had 2 sons Thomas and William by Elisabeth Dale. Both boys were illigitimate but John left them his estate. Unfortunately William died before inheriting. It is believed that Thomas gambled his inheritance away and then ran a pub in Rye from approximately 1801 until he died in 1846. Does anyone know which pub he ran or where I could find this information out? It is possible Thomas either used the surname Dale or Turk.
