Rye in East Sussex Town Guide

Thomas Tiltman

I have a Thomas Tiltman B1827 Eastbourne, East Sussex married to Amelia Eggleton (Miles)There was a William Tiltman B1839 Rye Sussex parents are John and Mary Ann Tiltman. He was on the 1851 Census I have of Amelia before she was married to Thomas so I assume there must be a connection. I have too many names to mention here so I just thought I would see if anybody had anything on this particular one and then take it from there. I am in contact with a friend who is investigating the Rye connection so anything would help.

Julia Just read your message regarding Thomas Tiltman born Eastbourne married to Amelia Miles. They were my GG grandparents. I believe Thomas James was their first child born 1856 East Cliff Rye who left Sussex to go to Ryhope starting the Northern branch of the family; of which I am one. Where I become unstuck is the step from Thomas to father John Tiltman, mariner as recorded on Marriage cert. Census info does not show them living in the same house. However I have deduces that Thomas is the son of John and Mary Miles (N.B the Miles connection) but would like confirmation. Can you help? Regards John Tiltman
