After nearly 25 years Mike brings the pianola concert back to Rye! The concert will be in two parts with a longish interval to allow for the change-over of instruments at the piano.
Part one will be the Pianola, with Mike Boys as Pianolist, with the emphasis on pieces written for, or arranged for, the Pianola (such as Stravinsky, Percy Grainger and others), and also Pianists and Composers who owned and enjoyed the instrument (such as Gershwin, Rachmaninov and Fats Waller!). Mike will give some history and a little technical insight, and will answer questions afterwards.
Part two will feature an Ampico Reproducing Piano, which plays back recordings captured on paper rolls, with all the dynamics and expression that the original Pianist employed – including both sustain and una corda pedals. Performances by Rachmaninov, Aaron Copland, Vincent Youmans, Fritz Kreisler and The Original Piano Trio will be heard.
