Rye in East Sussex Town Guide

Family History of Hoad

Wanting information on the Hoad family of Watchbell Street. They were involved in Hoad Shipping in the 1800’s. One of the family I believe was a mayor of the town round about that time..

You are absolutely correct – my maternal grandfather Percy Hoad was a descendent of the Hoad family in Rye. There is a whole exhibit on the Hoad shipyards in Rye Museum. Are you a Hoad?
